About HRS
Who I am:
Hill Research Services is the business owned and operated by N. F. Hill. I am N. F. Hill, and you may call me Nancy.
What I do:
I do research of all sorts and disseminate the information I uncover and write about via electronic, print, and verbal channels according to my client or audience preferences.
How I developed my business:
I have always loved information, been fascinated with its various forms, and continue to immerse myself in it on a daily basis. I have an M.S. in Cultural Anthropology from Purdue University where I studied with Dr. Myrdene Anderson. Myrdene is one of the most respected researchers in the area of semiotic theory and understanding and I consider my time under her tutelage to have been a most fortunate apprenticeship. Few Contemporary American graduate programs require their students to have an understanding of the integrative nature of research and the art of reference that are requisite for critical thinking; Myrdene’s students are among the fortunate few to have been required to achieve basic mastery in these areas. Before and after my graduate studies in the mid 1980s I worked in Library systems at Research 1 level universities until the mid-1990s when I took a position at a major anthropological and archaeological museum where I worked under a director who was an academic grandfather of members of my graduate committee and reported to one of the first American Indians to direct a major american museum before he became director. In libraries worked in periodicals, then serials, and then reference services that included providing infomation to students, researchers and the public at general, undergraduate, and science reference desks before accepting the museum position. I began my career as a freelance writer and researcher with publications beginning in 1990 concurrent with my academic library and museum work.
